PALO ALTO, Calif., April 1, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) today announced that it has started the acquisition of Linux Belgium, founded by Tesla Hacker and CEO, Jasper Nuyens, through its direct wholly-owned subsidiary Fishria Acquisition Corp., a Delaware corporation, to acquire fully all privately held stock of Linux Belgium for an undisclosed number of Tesla cars.
Tesla has been using Linux in all its cars since the Tesla Roadster. "By OpenSourcing our Car Operating System, we can focus on our proprietary Autopilot software while simultaneously increasing functionality, stability and security", said Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO and visionary. "Incorporating the talent needed to make this happen, was the logical next step".
Tesla represents the next step in the evolution of the car. Tesla has been building its own operating system based upon Linux to compete with Apple iOS CarPlay and Android Auto. Opening up this platform for other car manufacturers and app developers, presents a new challenge for the revolutionary car maker who is know to open up its patents to its competitors to accelerate the change throughout the industry.
